Clan Name: Kagami Clan
Clan Village: Kirigakure no Sato
Clan History: The Kagami were one of the lesser founding families of Kirigakure and have existed in the village in one form or another since its founding. As the story goes it was Kiyoshi Kagami who raised the family to fame, sacrificing his life fighting alone against the Sanbi no Kyodaigame when its original host died. Kiyoshi expended his life force to trap the Kyodaigame in a dream-like stupor that it might be resealed. So impressed by this display of loyalty was the Nidaime Mizukage that he raised the family up to the status of a full fledged Clan, naming Kiyoshi's son Kensei as the new Clan's head.
Most thought that a Clan raised up from the rabble would disappear within a generation, however Kensei proved to be a strong and capable Clan leader. Through brokered deals and strategic marriages as well as outstanding performance as shinobi specialising in Genjutsu, the Kagami secured their place and have steadily strengthened their position ever since.
In particular the Clan flourished under the reign of the Yondaime Mizukage as it possessed the accumulated skill and prestige of a well established Clan without the damning stigma of a Kekkai Genkai. During this time the current Clan leader Kazuki Kagami rose to prominence, though at the time he was somewhat overshadowed by his elder brother Keiji who was a master of Genjutsu and a Kenjutsu practitioner considered for candidacy to the Seven Ninja Swordsmen before being beaten handily by Mangetsu Hozuki to secure the spot. While Keiji gained a reputation for outstanding power and prowess, Kazuki was most famous for his sense of honour and unwavering dedication to justice. Because of his honourable nature and his sword casing meant to disguise his blade as a bokken, the name of Bokutou no Kazuki would become one respected in the other Four Great Nations even if proponents of the Bloody Mist philosophy disparaged him for being too weak willed.
Though the brothers were as different as could be they both harboured the sincere desire for change, though Kazuki wished to change things gradually and gently from the inside, Keiji had a much more proactive approach. Shortly before the era of the Bloody Mist came to its end, Keiji attempted an assassination on the Mizu Daimyo, whom he blamed for allowing his nation to slide into such depravity. The attempt failed and Keiji went into a self imposed exile rather than face punishment, however that left his Clan in dire straits. After much tension and some tough negotiation Kazuki's father Koutou stepped down as Clan head and promptly committed suicide to atone for his son's betrayal. This saw a great loss of influence for the Clan and towards the end of Yagura's reign as Mizukage when he became increasingly paranoid and more prone to frenzy it was thought more than once that the Clan would be either exiled or eradicated altogether.
Kazuki was left in charge of the Clan, retiring from active service as an ANBU shortly after his ascension. Though it was not a position he ever wanted, Kazuki proved a capable enough leader to maintain and protect the Clan through the turbulent days which marked the end of Yagura's reign and the end of the Bloody Mist. He was a leading reformist and keen supporter of Mei Terumi for the role of Godaime Mizukage and despite no longer being an active shinobi he briefly served as a consult during the initial days of her reign. Though the Clan has yet to fully recover from Keiji's betrayal and many other families view them with some degree of suspicion, the Kagami stand as ever as faithful guardians of the Hidden Mist and look to the new age as a fresh start for themselves as well.
Clan Leader: Kazuki Kagami

Notes
- The Clan's symbol is a four pointed diamond separated into three sections from the top point about half way down, the dividing line then splits in two, continuing down in either direction at a 45 degree angle and intersecting with the bottom two sides. One of the more simplistic Clan symbols found in the shinobi world it is meant to represent a cracked or shattered mirror and signifies “the detachment of the mind and conquest of our personal illusions.”
- Upon graduating the Ninja Academy a member of the Kagami Clan is traditionally given a sword (the make of which is usually some form of nihonto) bearing the Clan seal as a graduation gift.
- The direct descendants of Kiyoshi Kagami are easily identifiable by their blue hair.
