Gender: Female
Village: Cloud
Rank: Chuunin
Nature Manipulation: Water
Appearance:
Pic of her
Body
Niji is about 4’10.5”. She is very short but that doesn’t really stop her from being a ninja. Her body weight is about 95-96 lbs. Her hair is long, wavy, and it is a purplish color. It’s soft and silk, due to her taking such good care of it. In the back it’s very long but in the front, it is shorter and sort of in her ruby red eyes. Her skin is a semi-tan color and on her cheeks has a small blush. Niji’s face is round and soft looking. Going down her body, her bust isn’t that developed but she has like a size B. Her shoulders aren’t very broad and it seems like she has hardly any muscle in her arms because they are small and somewhat thin. Her hands are dainty and small, making it harder to use Taijutsu. She doesn’t have quite the hourglass shape, but she is getting there. Her legs are slim and fit, making her legs a little more muscular than her arms and she has small feet, which is a size 3.
Clothing
She wears a purple and white dress that goes down to about her ankles. The collar of the dress is folded like an elegant school girl shirt. It has a lot of designs on it and her sleeves are poofy. Around her right wrist are two small golden bracelets and on her right ring finger is a silver ring she obtained from her mother when she was nine. She has a belt that goes diagonally across her waist. It is brown and is held together by a large, circular ring that has like the symbol for female on it upside down. Her boots go to about her mid-leg and they are a brown color. She usually wears a yellow bow in her hair to keep it like a ponytail. She wears her ninja headband around her neck like a choker.
Personality:
Personality
Kind to people, Niji will always be there for people. Although her shyness gets in the way, she tries to help whenever she can. Niji isn’t very talkative, but she doesn’t have to talk to tell people how she feels. People can read her easily, making her very cautious around others she doesn‘t know. She is always smiling, even though she has had a hard life. Niji will take in any creature if it’s hurt. She wants to become a Medic-Nin. Usually alone, she will be at the park swinging on one of the many swings there. Niji only talks to her little sister and people she knows.
Some of the many flaws that Niji has are clumsiness. She is very clumsy and she runs into everything when she doesn‘t pay attention. She has many weaknesses; one of these is being highly emotional. If offended, she will run off and hide then cry once she knows she won't be found. She is sensitive about criticism. Niji is self-conscious about how she looks and is often comparing herself to others. She considers herself weaker than others when it comes to Taijutsu.
Battle Style
She uses Ninjutsu and Genjutsu as her strong points. Her normal jutsus are Water techniques. When she is in a fight, she gets into a defensive stance more than offensive due to her believing herself to be weak. When Niji decides to go all out and do her best in the fight, she does really well. Her weak point is Taijutsu because of her clumsiness. She uses bow and arrows and she has 50% accuracy. She is really good at using a bow and arrows to an extent. Sometimes she isn’t very careful and can almost hit her own teammate.
Likes, Dislikes, Hobbies, Fears, and Favorites
Her likes are practicing her Ninjutsu, Genjutsu, and her bow and arrow accuracy. Niji also loves to read and sleep in on weekends. Sometimes she will be late for missions due to her sleeping in. Niji likes flower gardens and butterflies. When she was younger, she loved to chase fireflies. More than likely the thing she loves most is her sister because that’s all she has left of her family. She has a love for things like mammals with fur. Cats, Dogs, Rabbits, Ferrets, and animals like that are examples.
She dislikes loud noises. Niji is scared of Raiton (ironic because she lives in the land of lightning) users because of how loud their jutsus are. Other dislikes are cockroaches, worms, and reptiles. She doesn’t really like people, due to her shyness. Niji hates spiders, which to her is surprisingly not a bug. Niji doesn’t like the color purple, due to that being the same color as what her ex-friend used to wear a long time ago before her death.
Her hobbies consist of reading, watching the stars at night, and spending time with her sister. When she is reading, she doesn’t like to be disturbed at all. If disturbed, she will go somewhere else and stay secluded until she decides to stop reading. She usually watches the stars from either her window or on her roof. Silence is a virtue while she is watching the stars. Her sister and she have a great relationship. When things go wrong, they go to each other. Niji is always protective of her little sister no matter how shy she is because they only have each other and Niji won’t let her sister get hurt.
Niji’s one and only big fear is dying and leaving her sister alone. Like what happened with their parents, she doesn’t want to leave her younger sister to fend for herself at such a young age like what happened to her. To Niji, death is never a good fate for someone. Scared of dying alone is another thought she thinks about. She is always thinking about what will happen to her if she dies and leaves her sister by herself.
Niji’s favorite things are pocky, dogs, ramen, romance novels, and horror novels. Her all time favorite flavor for pocky is chocolate. She will eat that like a meal sometimes and she carries it with her on missions so she won‘t be hungry. Niji has never really been scared of dogs, so this has been considered lately as one of her favorite things. Ramen is all she eats and her most favorite is chicken ramen. Reading is no problem when she has either a romance novel or a horror novel. Due to her huge imagination, she can‘t read horror novels at night because of nightmares.

History:
~~Birth~~
Niji was born to a poor family in Suna on January 12th at around 4:20 pm. The Hotaru family was pleased that she was a girl and her mother named her Niji, or Rainbow. Her father thought that this was a wonderful name for the Hotaru family, due to the last name meaning firefly. Niji arrived at the family’s small shack two days after her birth. At the first moment she arrived home, everything seemed to be at peace. Niji didn’t cry much, nor did she keep her parents up all night. Her mother thought she was a little angel, until she reached age one. They relocated to the Land of Lighting before her first birthday.
~~Years 1-5~~
It started smoothly to say the least, Niji was starting to walk and talk a little after turning one. She ran into things and picked up on words that were not meant to be said by a mouth her age. At that time, things seemed to be going fine until Niji’s father fell ill. He wasn’t able to work then and it started to bring the family into poverty even more. Her mother started to work overtime at the job she had as a restaurant owner, making it harder to raise Niji. They brought in babysitters to help with Niji, but it never seemed to help much due to lack of money. After a week or so, Niji’s father became well again and started working, bringing them out of the poverty they were slowly falling into.
Back on their feet, Niji’s parents started thinking of putting their daughter into the ninja academy when she turned seven or so. By age 2, Niji had enough memory skills to learn some of the basics, like chakra control and a small bit of Taijutsu. Slowly, however, her parents found that her bones were very fragile and unable to do as much Taijutsu as a normal child. Her father thought it was just her age so he decided to wait on learning that until she was a little older. The schedule was that early in the morning, she would train in chakra control, late in the afternoon she would help her mother around the house, training her in responsibility, and late at night after her father got home from work, he would help her train in a little Taijutsu.
At age three, Niji began to show potential in Ninjutsu and Genjutsu. Still not able to do Taijutsu made things harder for her as she played with the local village kids. Her feelings were easily hurt by how they picked at her for not having any Taijutsu skill and she soon became scared of others. Turning shy wasn’t what her mother and father had planned and it seemed to hurt her chances at becoming a ninja. Niji never gave up though and she told her parents in her meek little voice all the time “I will become a ninja”. Saying this gave her mother confidence that she would fulfill that dream.
When she turned four, things were going smoother due to her parents becoming Jounins. They went on missions, leaving her to train and take care of the house. One day they returned with a small gift for Niji- a bow and arrows set. Niji was pleased and she began practicing right away, eager to learn how to use the weapons. Her father believed that since she wasn’t capable of doing Taijutsu, she could learn how to use weapons as her strong points in the Taijutsu. After that, her parents went on another mission, leaving her again to train and do house work. Enjoying this, Niji decided to train more than ever after her parents returned again.
Her fifth birthday was havoc, due to her ending up sick with the flu. Niji never enjoyed being sick, but she dealt with it. After being sick for two or three days, she came up with her nindo. It was to protect her family and her village, and to help others when they needed help. Her parents were pleased and got her the present she always wanted, her first ninja outfit. It was a purple dress with red flowers on it and it had the Cloud village symbol on it. After getting well, she put it on immediately and started training again.
~~Years 6- NOW~
At ages six, her sister was born. Niji loved her the minute she arrived home and helped take care of her. Knowing she would be going to the Academy that next year, she used her time wisely with training and helping out with her sister. At times, she didn’t get to train, especially since her parents were on missions and she was left alone to take care of things. During that time, her younger sister started to walk and talk as well. Niji was kept up all night because her sister wouldn’t stop crying, making her sleepier in the daytime. When her parents got home, she slept in during the day and trained at night.
When she was seven, her mother gave her a journal to keep her secrets in. Ever since then, she has written in is about everything. Mostly, her sister is mentioned as well as a couple of other people. One event Niji could remember writing in her journal was about the day she accidentally broke her mother's glass vase. She tried to glue it back, but messed up. Her mother found out about it a few hours after the incident but didn't punish Niji. She said to Niji that since she apologized, there was no harm done.
She went to the Academy at age eight, increasing her training by a lot. She did well in the Academy and she was the top student due to her early training as a toddler. That was when she started to get made fun of more, not only because of her lack in Taijutsu, but being the best at knowledge. She learned to ignore the children and just walk away, making her not as talkative towards other people. Usually, she brought her bow and arrows along to practice with them at recess, but she was never very accurate. She almost hit some of the teacher, banning her from bring them again after a few days. Niji was heartbroken at that but she lived with it.
At age nine, she tried to train her sister but it didn’t go very well. Her younger sister wasn’t very patient and she didn’t listen to directions properly, so Niji gave up after a month or so. She tried to practice more with Taijutsu after a few months was easily hurt by kicking a tree in the back yard. Niji had a broken leg and it upset her to not be able to go to the Academy. It put her behind, making her go through another year of school. Niji became better and she began working harder to make up for the weeks she had missed and she caught up with the rest of the class after a month or two.
Tragedy struck when Niji was ten. During a mission, her parents were killed by rouge ninja, leaving the ten year old with a three year old child. Going to the Academy, working part time, and taking care of a small child was taking a toll on little Niji. People asked if she needed help but she just rejected the offers, telling them its apart of her training as a soon-to-be Genin. Though they did not like it, they respected her wishes and left her alone. Only when she needed a babysitter, then she allowed the older villagers to help her.
Her journey to being a Chuunin wasn't an easy one. Niji had to do tons of missions on the way, but that wasn't the hard part. The hardest part to Niji was leaving Hakumei to take the Chuunin exams when she was eleven. At first, the Chuunin exams seemed easy, but as it progressed it only got harder. Niji didn't pass the Exam when she first did it. Once she returned to the Cloud Village, she trained really hard so she could try again. She didn't do the Chuunin Exams for the next two years that way she could prepare.
When she turned thirteen-fourteen, she tried the Chuunin Exams again. It was a little harder then the last time she tried, but she didn't let it get to her. She almost didn't pass that year at a couple of moments, but she used her quick thinking and passed the Chuunin Exam. She returned to her sister as a Chuunin. From then on, she has been a Chuunin for the Cloud Village.

Niji Hotaru was up late that night training alone behind her house in the Cloud village. She was practicing her Taijutsu, knowing it was her weakness. Sighing softly, Niji stopped and looked at the tree that she was so desperately hitting and kicking. ‘I did nothing!’ she thought, seeing that she had made no marks on the trees what so ever. Niji pulled out her bow and arrow set, aiming at a target on one of the trees. Releasing the arrow, she hit the bull’s eye and smiled softly. If she was good with weapons, she was the master at bows and arrows.
Slowly, she walked over and grabbed the arrow, putting it back in the circular container where its siblings were. Niji turned; making her way inside the small house her and her sister lived in. Their parents died when Niji was ten thus making her a young mother to her sister Hakumei. “I’m going to protect her always” she said softly as she started to walk up to her room when Niji heard a door squeak open. “Niji-nee-san? What were you doing?” asked a small female voice.
A small smile crept onto Niji’s face as she looked at her sister, Hakumei. “I was just training, no need to be worried-” she stopped speaking as she noticed her younger sister was crying. “Hakumei? What’s wrong?’ she asked as she quickly moved over to her sister and hugged her softly. Niji could feel her sister shaking, making the older sister worry. “Hakumei?”
Hakumei looked up at Niji, her tear stained face all pinkish as if she had a fever. “Niji-nee-san….I don’t feel good….c-can I sleep next to you?” asked the small voice shakily. Niji immediately took Hakumei to her room and tucked her into the bed. “Hakumei, I’ll be right back all right?’ Niji whispered softly as she walked out of her bedroom and towards the bathroom. She got a rag and wetted it gently. She then got a glass of water, turning towards the bedroom. She knew that the night was going to be a long.
