Name: Kegumo Kurogo
Age: 25
Gender: Female
Village: Kumogakure, Village Hidden in the Clouds
Rank: Jounin, Former ANBU
Nature Manipulation: Water: Main, Lightning: Secondary
Appearance:
^ Kegumo as an ANBU
Kegumo could be considered by some as beautiful. However, most who see her say she seems to exude a motherly charm, often times wearing a small, kind smile. She has a slim build, with tight, lean muscle. She is taller than average, standing at a grand height of 5'11, towering over many females and even some men.
Kegumo's hair is long and flowing, reaching about her lower back. It is pitch black and color, and seems to have a glossy shine to it in the sunlight. Kegumo's eyes are a stunning bright red. While it is generally thought that such a color would throw some people off, they seem to be filled with warmth, actually adding to her motherly appearance.
Occasionally, she can be seen in her old ANBU outfit, a blue top with white outlining, two white ropes crossed in an fashion over her chest and back, holding the scabbard for her katana, a white obi with a small blue sash like part connected to it, a blue hakama, blue wrappings holding the hakama to her legs from the knee down, completely covering her feet, and standard issue blue shinobi foot wear over this. Over her hands with this assemble will be blue gloves, often covered by a white gauntlet.
More often though, when not out on mission, she can be seen with a baggy blue kimono, tuck into the white obi at her waist. She will have the same blue hakama, but it will only be wrapped from her shin down, instead of her knee. The wrappings also don't completely cover her feet. She still wears the same gloves, though most of the glove is covered by the sleeves of her haori. Strapped to her back by her is obi is her katana scabbard.
In both of these outfits, she will usually have both arms taped from the shoulder to the elbow. She wears a kunai holster, strapped to her right thigh with bandages, and has her Kumogakure forehead protector tied around her left.
Personality:
Kegumo, from first glance, is a very kind, very loving, and very trusting young woman. Only two of these observations would be right, and one of them only partially.
Kegumo is very kind. She would never do anything to hurt anyone without a reason. She loves to give, and can often be seen giving the orphans of Kumo candy and other treats. She can also be seen playing games of 'ninja' with them. Around other people, she is generally kind, trying her best to make people feel comfortable. When she was in ANBU, it was commented on often about how they would "rather be on Black Widow's (Kegumo's Codename) squad."
Kegumo is a very loving woman. She loves children, and sees them as "The lights of the future." All children seem to love her, especially the orphans she sees regularly. Like an unofficial mother. Not only is she very loving of children, she also loves animals. Any animal even remotely cute easily earns her love and affection.
A first impression of Kegumo is that she is very trusting, maybe even naive in her trust. This is not true. Kegumo is distrustful of people, and very distrustful of men. In her experience, men can't be trusted. This isn't to say she would never trust a man. After she spent some time with them and got to know them (and their intentions) she could learn to trust one. There are very few men she trust, one of the few being the Raikage, who has time and again shown he is worthy of it.

History:
Kegumo was born in a small village a few miles away from the Great Shinobi Village of Kumogakure. Her father was a retired shinobi, and her mother was a common civilian. Her father, a man by the name of Yotte, had seen many horrid things during his time as a ninja, and this drove him to drink. Kegumo's mother, a young woman, girl, really, by the name of Taka, had fallen in love with Yotte years ago, when the man was still a man with a dream. A man with hopes.
They got married two years before Kegumo's birth. Right before her father retired from ninja duty and began down the long road of madness. Yotte had seen things. Things civilians, and even some ninja, could never imagine. No one blamed him when he used alcohol to get rid of the images.
Things seemed to start taking a happier turn when Kegumo was born. Yotte laid off the drinking, and both he and Taka were there. At least for the first few years of her life. Yotte soon relapsed, and started drinking again. He first hit Kegumo when she was only a child. They were out shopping, and her father was thoroughly drunk, as always. She saw an ice-cream stand, and asked her father if she could have some. It wasn't really a hit. More a slap. But it was enough.
No one saw it, luckily or unluckily enough. After that one slap, Kegumo seemed to withdraw. She barely talked, and her mother grew worried. When she asked Kegumo what was wrong, all she got was one word. "Father." That stung Taka. She loved her husband, even though she knew he was but a shell of the man he once was.
Eventually, Taka's worry for her child outgrew the love she had for Yotte. She took her child and left. The only word she received from her husband when she told him she and Kegumo were leaving were, "Hurry up. You need to cook dinner." Sometimes later in life, Taka would wonder what had happened to her husband, and if maybe it was right to leave him. Every time she looked at her daughter though, growing up to be a fine young woman, she would decide that yes, she had made the right choice.
Kegumo and her mother went to Kumo, where they were happily received. Taka got a job as a waitress at a small restaurant, and even Kegumo did her part to bring in money. She started a little business of running letters back and forth around Kumo. While this was normally a job for Genin, the townsfolk were happy to pay the lower fee she required rather than pay a whole team of genin to deliver one message. Since delivery missions inside the city didn't bring in much money itself, the Ninja Corps didn't mind either.
Even though her mother had gotten her away from her drunkard of a father, Kegumo never trusted another man after that. Funny, how one little incident can ruin a person for life. One little moment, one tiny childhood memory, can brand someone with a scar that may never leave them. Kami only knows what would of happened had they stayed there. Would Yotte have started to abuse Taka, would he have started abusing Kegumo? Luckily they didn't, and no one would ever have to know the answer to that question.
By the time Kegumo was ready to enter the academy, her mother had managed to save up enough money for her entry fee and her supplies. Kegumo insisted she be the one to raise the money, as she did not want to be a burden on her mother. But Taka insisted. She loved her daughter very much, and since recently Kegumo had expressed an interest in the shinobi arts, Taka decided to give her child what she wanted.
Kegumo promised she would repay her mother. Not just for the money she gave so Kegumo could become a ninja, but for giving her life in the first place, and for loving her every day, even the days she was bad. A debt she would later know she could never repay, but she would still attempt it.
Unfortunately, Kegumo wasn't much one for the ninja arts. Not only did she not have a fancy ninja family to teach her everything, but she also barely listened to a word her male instructors said, instead preferring to figure it out herself. Needless to say, she did not do well. The only art she excelled in was genjutsu, and that was because it was taught by a woman.
When Kegumo graduated the academy, she was put on a genin team, as usual. There was one problem. Her two teammates were "stupid obnoxious boys" and her sensei was a man. Not exactly her first choice of time, that was for sure.
She would never come to completely trust her sensei. At least not until that faithful mission two years after her graduation, and one year after her and her teammates field promotion to chuunin. It was during the Third Great Shinobi World War. Kumo allied itself with Iwa, but Iwa wasn't the best of allies, usually late in giving their intelligence reports to Kumo, which sometimes allowed Kumo's missions to go very wrong.
This was one such mission. They had to deliver some documents (the contents of which were never disclosed to them) to a small Kumo outpost in country of Kusa no Kuni (The Land of Grass). This had become a large battle ground of Konoha and Iwa, and they were to deliver the documents and return home as quickly as possible. The mission was B-Rank.
The first half of the mission went successfully. They delivered the documents, then hightailed it the hell out of there. The trouble struck at the border. A large contingent of Konoha forces were ambushed by Iwa somewhere nearby. Neither of the forces knew Kegumo's team was there.
They heard the sounds of battle too close for comfort. As they attempted to change course, a stray wind jutsu flew through the trees on a collision course with Kegumo. Kegumo's sensei, Idaina Jinbutsu, pushed her out of the way, and took the jutsu himself. It tore off one of his arms, and badly damaged his torso.
Doing quick field medical-ninjutsu, they rushed back to Kumo, where they were barely able to save Idaina. He lived, but he would never be a ninja again. Kegumo would never forget that act, and Idaina would become the first man she ever trusted completely.
They were allowed to stay on a team, ever with the loss of their sensei, which Kegumo was glad for. Unwittingly, she had come to trust her two teammates as well, and didn't know if she could stomach another team anyway.
It was during a routine delivery mission (deja vu). She was to deliver a small scroll to an old retired ninja who lived just outside of Kumo.
When she arrived, the woman insisted she come in and have some tea. Not seeing a pressing need to return, she agreed. The woman sat her in the small sitting area while she read the scroll. Soon the woman brought some tea, as well as a larger scroll.
"Young lady, do you know what this is?" Of course, no, Kegumo did not know what it was. It turned out that it was a Summoning Contract, for the Kumo Clan. The old woman told Kegumo that the scroll she had delivered was a request that she pass off the scroll onto one of the new generation of ninja. It wasn't an order, just a request. It was the old woman's to do with as she pleased.
She asked Kegumo if she would like to sign, to which Kegumo enthusiastically agreed. She had never summoned anything before, and it sounded fun. After Kegumo signed the contract, the woman had her memorize the hand-seals, then took her outside to perform the summoning. The woman was very surprised when in the next instant, Sasori-Same stood in front of her, wondering why she had been summoned.
When the situation had been explained to her, she took a quick glance over Kegumo and muttered "Eh, she's pretty enough." Before dispelling herself. Taking that as a sign of acceptance, Kegumo was overjoyed. She now had a summon.
By this time, the war had stopped. Kegumo had her Jonin exam, and was promoted to jonin. Of course, being a rookie jonin, she was often teased by her peers, causing her general dislike of men to grow. She now had to go on missions with people she didn't know or didn't like, and didn't often get to go on missions with her old teammates.
She soon gained a reputation though as a great fighter, and an even greater tactician. For her prowess in both these fields, she was soon recruited into ANBU, one of the elite forces of the Village.
During her time as ANBU, one of Kegumo's missions went horribly awry. They were given faulty intelligence on an enemy hideout they had been tasked to clear. It was said there wouldn't be many ninja, and those that were ninja weren't more than chuunin. The only reason an ANBU team was tasked with it was the sheer number of people in the hideout.
During the clearing, it seemed intelligence was right. But seemingly from the woodworks more ninja appeared, all of which seemed of jonin rank. Her team was surprised, and most of them were slaughtered. Luckily, with her tactical prowess and her Captains willingness to listen to her, she was able to come up with an on the fly plan to distract the attacking ninja. The plan worked, and her remaining team members were able to escape. The mission was counted as a failure.
Kegumo couldn't stand being an ANBU any longer after that point. The death and blood had finally gotten to her. She decided to hand her mask in at the next opportunity. That opportunity happened to be the Raikage asking her if there was anything else she would like to do besides be an ANBU. "To teach." Was her answer.
RP Sample:
Kegumo sat upon the small couch in the small home. It was quite cozy, with a large fire-place, bear-skin rug, and pictures of family. Somewhere she would want to live if/when she retired. She turned to look as an old woman, looking to be in her early seventies. Even at that age, it was till easy to tell the woman had been quite lovely when she was younger. In fact, she saw a picture of a tanned, blond haired woman in the corner that she believed to be the woman.
She carried with her a small tea cup in her right hand, and a large scroll under her left arm. Kegumo was confused. The scroll looked like a scroll of sealing. Or a summoning scroll. It made sense, since the woman used to be a strong ninja, but why the woman had brought the scroll out, she didn't know.
"Do you know what this is, young lady?" Kegumo merely shook her head. She was worried about talking to loud, and seemingly breaking the calm atmosphere of this little cottage.
"Its a summoning contract...Tell me...ye ain't afraid of scorpions, are ye?"
Again, Kegumo merely shook her head. While scorpions weren't her favorite creatures in the world, she didn't hold any fear towards them.
"How would ye like to learn how to summon them?"
At first, Kegumo couldn't comprehend what the woman was saying. Summon scorpions? She had never summoned anything in her life!
"R-really?" Her fear of breaking the atmosphere disappeared. While she normally didn't get excited at the prospect of learning things, summoning was different. Summoning was something that ninjas of legend did to turn the tides of battle! Who wouldn't be excited to learn how to do it? Only an idiot, thats who.
The old woman smiled, opening the scroll. "Just sign yer name in blood here."
(Kinda crappy, but I'm tired, so I'm gonna stop it here)
