Name: Kyomu Kagami (Kagami means mirror while Kyomu translates roughly as nothingness.)
Nicknames: Kyo or Kyo-san to those he knows well, Mu to his Clan
Age: 13
Gender: Male
Village: Kirigakure no Sato
Rank: Genin
Nature Manipulation: Water
Appearance:
Kyomu is often recognized by his hair which is dark, approaching black but with a dark blue tint. In the height of Summer the sun sometimes has a bleaching effect which makes his hair turn a much lighter blue and yet while he was at the Academy girls continuously speculated on whether or not he dyed it. Kyomu outright refuses to comment on this subject. His hair is fairly long, reaching the back of his neck and curling up, as for the front he wears it parted with a few locks still falling over his forehead which he usually sweeps to one side, his face is also framed by long bangs at either side. Kyomu's eyes are also blue, large, clear and very expressive they are very much the focal point of his face as his nose is small, while his lips are thin.
Indeed much of Kyomu is, not skinny, but certainly trim. Though he has little noticeable muscle he keeps in good condition if for no other reason than to be able to heft his sword. He has no scars other than the odd faded mark where he's taken a bump or scratch in training, though he isn't pale his skin is very fair and its not unusual to see him sporting Sun bleached hair clashing with sun burn which makes him look like a boiled lobster.
Kyomu usually wears a black mesh t-shirt, white three quarter shorts which sport cargo pockets and blue sandals. Over his t-shirt he wears a sleeveless blue sweat top hemmed in white, the zip is also coloured white. Around his neck he wear a black cord attached to a shark's tooth which his father gave him as a graduation present. Generally he wears his headband as intended on his forehead, but sometimes in his down time he's been known to wear his sweat top undone with the headband slung loosely around his neck.
At all times Kyomu keeps a small scroll in one of his cargo pockets. This serves as an effective means of transport for his weapon of choice, a great sword which when placed with its tip to the ground easily reaches his shoulder while the handle rises over his head altogether. The blade is double edged (though the bottom third is routinely blunted so it can be rested easily on the shoulder,) straight and has no sword point but instead its end is completely flat, the handle is a light but sturdy wood painted black and wrapped in blue cloth. The sword is was formerly wielded by Kazuki Kagami and was the source of his nickname. (He is often hesitant to unseal the weapon as he can't reseal the scroll by himself in the field and the weapon is cumbersome to run with.)
Personality: Despite being the son of an ANBU prodigy Kyomu is in no way arrogant or overbearing, quite the opposite in fact, generally he is personable and timid, making light of his achievements, in some cases genuinely believing that he is not as strong as his peers. Living in the long shadow of his father has made him somewhat nervous, as though everyone around him is just waiting for him to screw it all up. As a result he is gracious in victory, but often seriously shaken or genuinely depressed by failure, especially in instances where he cannot keep up with the group he belongs to. He tends to constantly agonise over his strength, worry over his progress as a ninja and longs deeply to live up the legacy left to him by his father.
Upon meeting new people he maintains a great degree of politeness, always using the correct honorific, even when he gets to know someone closely he maintains this prompting some to think of him as detached though its generally only when someone gets on his bad side that he drops the honorific suffix. He believes wholeheartedly in chivalry and compassion, even in instances where the enemy discards such ideals. In short he is upright at any cost to himself, physical or emotional.
Though a talented youth as well as being in possession of a fine tactical mind Kyomu suffers greatly from performance anxiety, he is unable to simply snap into a combative mind set as he is not a naturally violent person. Kyomu inherited his father's attitude that a ninja's skills are meant to protect that which is dear to them, never to be used against friends or to inflict unnecessary harm, to that end he would much rather solve disputes with diplomacy and avoid fatalities at all costs. The only exception to his passive and pacifistic nature is when his home or comrades are threatened and in these kinds of situations he is able to push down his fears or disbelief in himself at least enough to allow him to fight with his full power.

History:
Kyomu was born to the prestigious Kagami Clan, the son of Clan Leader Kazuki Kagami and his wife Atsuko Fukui, as such he was expected to perform well to live up to the legend that was his father, far from inspiring him with any great confidence it instilled in him a crippling and debilitating fear of failure. As such he never seemed to show any signs of pride or hubris for fear of not being able to live up to them. While at the Academy he made few real friends, the children of the noble houses called his Clan a bunch of mongrels and ignored him while those of more humble origins thought that he put on airs or felt intimidated by his obvious talent. Though his written test scores were at best average but his practical tests sometimes came in excess of that.
In such a strange state of isolation it became easy for Kyomu to become disheartened, up until that point he had not thought about why he had wanted to become a ninja other than that it was what was expected of him. Out of desperation and genuine interest he asked his father what his reasons had been. What he was told would change his outlook on the ninja world entirely, Kazuki told his son that he had wanted to prove a Shinobi wasn't necessarily a tool for killing, but rather an instrument to guard what was most important. When Kyomu asked what was most important Kazuki replied that only he could make that decision.
Kyomu continued on his lonely way for some time, it was when he turned ten that his father began to teach him Genjutsu and Kenjutsu and it was only then that he began to excel in all of his test scores, truly coming into his own. When it came time to graduate Kyomu managed far above average scores across the board, achieving one of the highest Genjutsu scores in the history of Kiri's Academy.
Following his graduation Kazuki called his son back to the family home and passed on to him the sword which Kyomu now wields along with a scroll containing all of the Clan's secret techniques. Since graduation he has painstakingly poured over the scroll and training frantically in a sustained effort to be at least half the shinobi his father proved to be.

'Headband suits you, Mu.'
Kyomu Kagami flailed his arms in surprise, nearly knocking over the mirror he'd been striking poses in front of for the last couple of minutes and landed full length on his bedroom floor to the utter amusement of his father. 'Y- You were stood there all that time and didn't say anything?' Kazuki smiled, leaning in the doorway with a toothpick between his teeth as always, why did he always gnaw on those damn things?
'Didn't want to startle you, besides I really liked this one,' Kazuki straightened up, placed one hand on his hip and shaded his eyes eyes with one hand as though staring into the distance. 'It's all very heroic.' His smile didn't dim as he held the pose, to which Kyomu figured the wittiest response would be to throw an unwashed shirt from the floor right slap bang in his smirking mug.
'Not funny... I was just... well I was...' His sons befuddled response only drew another laugh from Kazuki as he threw the unwashed garment back to the floor.
'Don't worry about it Kyomu, your old man's struck a pose or two in his time, how'd you think a bum like me landed a hottie like your mother?' Kyomu audible slapped his hand against his forehead and dragged it down his face, Kazuki seemed to have forgotten that it was the boy's mother he was talking about. Questionable parenting aside Kazuki was beaming down at him with, was that, no it couldn't be... pride? Wishful thinking but...
'Oh man I gotta go meet my team!' With much clattering and skidding over discarded pieces of clothing Kyomu grabbed his sandals, pelted out his bedroom door, then downstairs and out the front still barefoot. 'I'll see you tonight!'
