It had been a while since Neena had a mission. She wasn’t complaining, though, as she was using this spare time to train and enjoy being home. If there was one thing she knew how to do, it was how to keep herself moving. When you were a frequent user of tijutsu techniques, continuing to move around could do nothing but help later on down the road. Taijutsu training was exactly how she intended to spend her day. Thanks to her small build, Neena believed that this was one area of training she needed to focus on the most. Sometimes she might act a little crazy, but this red haired girl was anything but dumb.
After practicing a combo attack on a wooden practice dummy, she fell back onto the ground, landing on her rear. Smiling, she wiped the sweat from her forehead and sighed. There was no greater honor to her than to better herself for the pride of her home. After all, Konoha was her home. Not her apartment, that was her dwelling. Neena believed that the concept of home extended beyond simply where you lived. It was the people and places where you spend your life and would do anything to protect. This was why she was a ninja, this was why she was training.
She stood up and brushed the dirt from her clothes. Despite the fact she felt so much pride in her home, she refused to wear a uniform. It restricted her movements in a way that prevented her from using her favorite jutsu. The wind licked lightly as her split skirt as Neena stood staring at her inanimate opponent. She had been trying in vain to make her punches as strong as her kicks. What was she missing?
“Stupid hunk of wood. If pops knew anything about taijutsu I wouldn’t be sitting here trying to kick your non existent butt.”
Neena stuck her tongue out at the practice dummy and turned away, crossing her arms as she pouted at her obvious failure. She had been using everything she had learned about making normal attacks stronger. Persistence, training, focus; none of it was working for her at the moment. For a moment, she considered seeking out a taijutsu master. She knew that Konoha was home to a few, thought the names escaped her at the moment. It was a bit embarrassing to think she still had to be trained after she had made it this far.
Annoyed with herself, the young woman dropped to the ground, on her knuckles, and began to do push ups. After a set, she would switch to one hand. After a set with that hand, she would switch to the other. She continued this for a few sets, hoping this was what she needed to increase her strength. Certainly, she just needed to do a big more training on her muscles to get it right. Then she would get a team of her own to raise into strong young ninjas with pride in their home.
A scream was heard nearby and Neena jumped up into a crouch, pulling a kunai from her waist pouch. Quietly, she crept to the direction of the scream. Blue and green shattered glass littered the path between two shops. Slowly, she put her kunai back and stepped into the open.
“What happened? I was training and heard a scream, scared the hell out of me.”
The redhead crossed her arms, a confused expression on her face as an older woman approached.
“Those rotten kids, this is the second time this week. I won‘t be able to sell anything at all at this rate!”
Clearly, the elder was as annoyed with the kids as Neena was with herself. Well, if she couldn’t fix her own problem, maybe she could assist someone else with their’s.
“Ah, if that’s all it is, I’ll talk to them.”
Neena wasn’t terribly good with small children, and the kids that were causing problems were probably at least a year away from joining the academy.
“Thank you ninja!”
The old woman gave Neena a kind smile and the red head saluted her back before beginning her chase.
She caught up with the kids easily, but decided it would be easier to watch them and see where they were going. The youngsters were acting strangely, as if trying to watch for people following them. It was normal for kids to be worried about getting into trouble, but there was clearly something else up, and that worried Neena.
The trio of kids entered a stall that appeared to sell pottery. A smirk crossed Neena’s face as she approached from the side, careful to stay hidden as she listened carefully for anything that might tell her what was going on.
“Good job, nephew. You and your friends are gonna get me some business for sure.”
It was obvious to the red haired ninja what was going on here. Her smirk broadened as she stepped around the corner into the shop and stared hard at the chubby man in front of her. Placing her hands on her hips, she approached and glared at him.
“I am so disappointed I don’t even know where to start. Getting kids to wreck an old lady’s glass shop. Have you no pride in your home? Do you not wish the best for the others who live in it? Shame on you sir, shaaaaame on you.”
Neena pointed accusingly as the frightened looking man. She watched him fall off his stool and jump back on it as he stuttered to try and find the words. To the girl ninja, there was nothing worse than someone who betrayed their fellow villagers. It was like betraying one’s extended family.
“I… I… I’m sorry, business has been bad and I didn’t know what to do. My older brother…”
“You called, little brother?”
Another man appeared behind Neena. He was tall and well built. It was only natural a bad day would just get worse like this. Here she was, surrounded, with knowledge that could get them in some serious trouble. Taking a deep breath, she turned to fully face the other man.
“Are you the one responsible for the old woman’s troubles?”
“Got a problem with it, poser ninja?”
The redhead narrowed her eyes, it was obvious he wanted to start trouble, but she wouldn’t fall for it. The tough guy would have to make the first move if he wanted to test her.
“Funny you call me a poser when I’m the one with the symbol to prove I’m the real thing. And you better believe I got a problem with people bullying each other in my home. You should too!”
He laughed a little before becoming instantly serious. He clinched a fist and made to punch the woman in front of him. Neena ducked down before using a simple Leaf Gale taijutsu. Her opponent fell to the floor with a thud and she jumped on him as soon as he was down.
“Experience my pride so that you can foster your own!”
The redhead pulled back her fist and punched him hard in the chest. She stood up and looked down at the man she had beaten some sense into. Her punch, that was what she was trying to do all along. Perhaps all she needed was a reason to show someone her pride, or rather to challenge their lack of pride. Either way, her day was finally a success. Although, she did not look forward to filing the incident report.
