Name: Sasuke Uchiha
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Village: Konohagakure
Rank: Genin
Nature Manipulation: Fire
Appearance:
Whereas some might praise a shinobi who has little about their appearance to distinguish them in a crowd, the young Uchiha genius is essentially the antithesis to this ideal. A strikingly attractive young man, Sasuke stands at about a height of 4'11”, and weighs in at roughly 93 pounds. As a growing child whose height has not yet reached its peak, one might think Sasuke to be quite the opposite of intimidating in any situation; and under ordinary circumstances, that may be the truth. However, there are a whole host of other contributing factors which Sasuke displays which demand the attention of an onlooker, in spite of his size.
The first and most obvious of these factors lies in the boy's eyes. While the dark, onyx color of his irises do not stand out in and of themselves, something can be found in the depths of these eyes that might make one pause and consider the implications of its presence. Through a simple gaze, Sasuke is able to convey (and indeed, often absolutely incapable of hiding) the kind of distrust, indifference, and even at times hatred that he holds within his mind. Which particular emotion shines through, as well as exactly how powerful these emotions seem to be, depends on whom his gaze is directed toward at the time. Interestingly, in spite of the pain and sorrow that holds a place somewhere within his being as a result of the betrayal he has been subject to, it is incredibly rare for Sasuke's eyes to show any sort of weakness or regret. It almost seems as if he has allowed his anger and cynicism to take over, so as to avoid allowing himself to succumb to the sort of half-hearted weakness that so many less prepared shinobi embrace as a coping mechanism.
Sasuke's appearance also befits that of his status as something of a loner, in that to those he is unfamiliar with he projects an outward appearance that has all the charisma of a statue - and an introverted statue at that. He will often times brood to himself, even when in the presence of others, occasionally leading them to believe he is ignoring or belittling them. His status as head of the class does not help his case, as it can lead other students to believe that he holds even more arrogance in regards to his own abilities than he actually does. While his eyes can be described as windows to his inner world of anger and resentment, the way he carries himself and the body language he uses suggest someone who does not concern themselves with mundane matters or uninteresting people. This combination of apparent emotional detachment and an inability to dissociate past with present within the confines of his mind is something of a staple of the conflict between various traits of Sasuke's appearance.
His dark, jet-black hair draws a distinct contrast to the lighter, more lively hair colors of his companions, reflecting the obvious differences in their behavior. His hair is somewhat spiky and even unkempt in the back of his head, while his bangs hang on either side of his head to frame the borders of his face, in a way. When speaking on his dark hair, it is also of note that his skin tone is somewhat more pale, even pallid, than what is typical of the normally outgoing, young Genin. This may once more serve to single him out as an individualist and a loner, as it suggests that much of his time may be spent indoors, or at the very least, that he hasn't devoted enough time to outdoor, recreational activities with others of his age to develop a more tanned complexion.
When it comes to his attire, Sasuke stays very true to the conventions and legacy of the Uchiha Clan, likely as a way of paying them homage constantly, and not allowing their memory to be forgotten in either his mind or the mind of those who might catch sight of him. Typically, he wears a medium-blue high-collared short-sleeved shirt with the Uchiha Clan symbol stitched into the back, putting his pride as an Uchiha on display for all around him to see. In addition to this, he also wears light-grey arm warmers, presumably to protect him from the elements. Along with this, however, it could be said that the arm warmers symbolize his psychological desire to protect both himself and his psyche from further hardship, in that the cloth warmers are not likely to offer much protection, yet perhaps subconsciously fool Sasuke into believing that in protecting exposed skin, he is protecting the weak points in his being in general. Finally, Sasuke prefers to don shorts which match the light-grey color of his arm warmers, so as to offer little hindrance to his movements and maximize what dexterity he has to offer. As loyal to his village as he is to his fallen clan at present, Sasuke wears his shinobi headband in conventional fashion, covering and protecting his forehead.
Personality:
One of the most important things to note about Sasuke Uchiha is that he has endured much hardship, not only at the hands of his seemingly traitorous brother, but also at the hands of a father that did not see him as anything but an inferior model of Itachi for a long period of time. One could describe the motive for Sasuke's determination in any number of ways – perceiving it as everything from a desire to rid himself of an inferiority complex he developed as a child to a longing to repair a sense of self that was shattered as a child due to both trauma and a lack of acknowledgment on the part of his role models.
Regardless of how one chooses to see this phenomenal inner-motivation, one cannot deny the fact that Sasuke Uchiha is one of the hardest-working, most talented Genin that Konohagakure has at their disposal. Spending an amount of training his personal skill set that dwarfs the time spent by the typical Academy Student and Genin, Sasuke could be called anything but a complacent genius. In spite of his own natural talent as an Uchiha Clan member and close relationship to a number of Konoha's most powerful shinobi as a child, the young Sasuke never developed a sense that success would come to him naturally, but rather adopted a belief that only through hard work could he achieve the success he desired. This has paid off over time, as the young Sasuke has always been at the top of his classes in the Academy, and has never failed to impress his instructor and all those who observe that which he has to offer. In fact, his ability is impressive enough to make the higher-ups of Konoha believe he will be enough to offset the effect which that dead-last Naruto Uzumaki might have on Team 7.
Although some, such as the aforementioned Jinchuuriki, might believe Sasuke to be arrogant to the point of pomposity, this is simply not an accurate description of his self-opinion. While he may over-estimate his own abilities, and this may appear to be arrogance to the typical observer due to his disinterested appearance, in truth Sasuke's faith in his own skill is at least somewhat warranted. Hailed as a genius even among the infamous Uchiha Clan, both Sasuke's repertoire in terms of jutsu and his disposition as a combatant are mature beyond his years. An important fact to note is that Sasuke was given very little formal training from his clan before they were massacred. Even jutsu that his father attempted to teach Sasuke before his demise did not receive an altogether very thorough lesson, as the man became disheartened when Sasuke could not live up to expectations he'd been given due to Itachi's unparallelled genius, and the young Sasuke was forced to teach and train himself to use such skills as fire release so as to please and be acknowledged by his father. When taking this into account, his status as top student seems all the more impressive, and his confidence and individualist nature seem to be only natural. Throughout his life, Sasuke has never had to truly rely on another to achieve that which he set his mind on. Why would he choose to embrace the friendship of those around him, or not give himself credit for skill that he so clearly developed himself?
Another important thing to remember about Sasuke is that he sees himself as the man who will avenge the slaughter of the Uchiha Clan, and kill his brother Itachi for his disloyalty and betrayal. Because of this, one could say that his overall goal in training himself as hard as he does, and never allowing himself to become complacent, is one of revenge, rather than a longing for approval. Indeed, Sasuke never does seem to worry about earning approval on the part of those around him. Since the death of his father, who was the last man Sasuke truly worked to impress, the young Sasuke has been working solely for the sake of increasing his own power in order to destroy his own brother. In fact, it would even be fair to say that he is still looking for approval, but rather in the form of his traitorous brother's opinion of him. Itachi's last words before leaving Sasuke urged him to become more powerful – to feed his anger and hatred so as to eventually perfect his Sharingan, and challenge his brother on equal terms. Bonds between siblings do not simply vanish, and as much as Sasuke loathes his brother for what he has done, somewhere in his mind he also wants Itachi to acknowledge his power before finally defeating him.
When it comes to what Sasuke values in those around him, the most important trait he tends to look for is independence. As a boy who has had to live and train on his own for a large portion of his life, he respects those who have not been guided by the helping hand of a family or parent. He also feels a large amount of empathy for the plight of those who haven't been fortunate enough to have a close, loving family member. That being said, at the same time he does value things such as skill, loyalty, and intelligence. Essentially, his unfortunate circumstances have left a certain sympathy in him for others who have been hurt in the past that he is not willing to show completely. Rather than explicitly comforting said others, he acts much more subtly to discredit those who would torment these unfortunate beings.
Toward his two teammates, Sasuke's opinions are rather neutral at the start of this tale. Although he knows Naruto Uzumaki as the loud, obnoxious boy that happened to be in the same year as him, he holds no grudge against the Jinchuuriki whatsoever. When the boisterous Naruto insults him, however, Sasuke can and will fire back with a tongue lashing of his own. Indeed, their relationship seems to currently be based solely on a barrage of insults that they may unleash toward one another. Sasuke does respect the fact that Naruto is an orphan, and has had to rely on his own will to get as far as he has – status as “dead last” notwithstanding. When it comes to Sakura, Sasuke is even more dismissive than he is with Naruto. He is well aware that the girl acts strangely around him, and isn't so naïve as to not realize that it probably has something to do with her hormones, and a typical Academy crush. However, when it comes to romance, Sasuke simply isn't interested. He's perfectly willing to be a good teammate (even a friend if someone proves themselves worthy of friendship), but he isn't about to reciprocate any of Sakura's feelings for him. In fact, he finds her treatment of Naruto to be grating, as he knows full well that she cannot understand the sorrow of someone who has gone without family for an extended period of time.

History:
Sasuke's past has been one of both happiness and hardship. As a young boy raised in the Uchiha Clan, expectations were high for Sasuke from the moment he was born. Named after the father of the Third Hokage, these high expectations seemed to come from every which way. Not only was he he named after a great shinobi from the village's past, he was also the son of Uchiha Clan head Fugaku Uchiha and his wife Mikoto, and brother one who might be called the most brilliant shinobi ever to be trained in Konohagakure, Itachi Uchiha. From the time he was a small child, Sasuke wanted nothing more than to make both his father and the rest of his clan proud through the work he was doing, and set himself apart from all others around him.
His relationship with Itachi was never strained whatsoever. The older sibling would often look after Sasuke – spending time with him whenever he did not have to fulfill his duties to Konohagakure and their ANBU force. Itachi would help in training the young Sasuke at times, looking after him as he worked on such skills as archery, and even bringing Sasuke on a mission of sorts to capture a wild boar. The two were nigh inseparable whenever Itachi had the time to spend with him, and Sasuke looked up to his brother almost as a father figure of sorts, along with a brother. This might beg the question as to why he did not view Fugaku in this same manner, and interestingly enough, the brother he adored so much seemed to be the main thing that drew the affection of his father, and the love a boy such as he should feel for his parent, away from Sasuke.
Being that he was considered a genius without parallel in Konoha, one could see why Itachi would be the prime candidate to receive the brunt of Fugaku's affection and attention. However, whereas favoring one child over the other is a common phenomenon, what Fugaku did was more along the lines of pushing the younger son under the rug in favor of the older. He would constantly compliment Itachi, and speak with him of affairs regarding both their clan and the Hidden Leaf as a village. Whereas Fugaku ignored the young Sasuke, Itachi took on the role of guardian in this way, constantly asking his younger brother about his progress and taking a keen interest in how Sasuke developed. In turn, Sasuke looked up to his older brother, and emulated him as a role model above all others. This unfortunate set of circumstances continued even until well after Sasuke joined the Academy, and began attempting to make himself known there. Although the young Uchiha was consistently at the top of his class, and one of if not the finest student in his year, his father continued to see only Itachi, and his accomplishments.
Over time, however, Itachi began to grow further and further apart from their father, which eventually culminated in him acting somewhat disrespectful and even hostile whenever their father approached him. Because of these strange changes with his oldest son, Fugaku then began to take an interest in Sasuke, as well. Attempting to teach him the Great Fireball Technique, which he described as a sort of coming of age jutsu for members of the Uchiha Clan, he was very disappointed when Sasuke was unable to perform the jutsu for him at the age of only seven years old. Unable to bear disappointing his father now that he had finally been gifted with his favor and attention, Sasuke spent a week training and training, attempting to finally master the jutsu. After a week had passed, he returned to his father and executed the jutsu perfectly, thereby finally earning himself the praise and love that he had desired.
This did not last as long as the boy would have liked, however. One night, without warning and seemingly without provocation, Itachi entered the grounds of the Uchiha Clan and slaughtered each and every member of their clan, with the exception of his younger brother Sasuke. Standing over the lifeless corpses of their parents, Itachi looked down at Sasuke, who was unable to take up arms against his brother and terrified over what had just occurred, and told him to harness the hatred and anger he felt in order to come and best him at some point in the future. He told Sasuke of the Sharingan, and how one might come to possess the Mangekyo Sharingan, and suggested that Sasuke only come to fight him when his eyes matched Itachi's in strength.
Sasuke originally believed he lost conscious after this, however, he did in fact pursue Itachi. His Sharingan awakened due to the intense emotional upheaval he was going through, he managed to knock his brother's forehead protector off of his head with a few well-thrown knives. However, as Itachi went to retrieve the fallen article of his uniform, Sasuke thought he saw him shed a tear before finally moving to knock Sasuke out. The boy awakened the next day in the hospital, absolutely unsure of what was real and what might be the construction of his own mind. The only thing he knew for sure was that Itachi had betrayed their clan, and murdered their kinsman. From that day forward, Sasuke resolved to become an avenger, and kill Itachi just as ruthlessly as he had killed their family. He trained each and every day with this goal in mind, and continued his success at the Academy until the present day, and his graduation and assignment to Team 7.

The boy's words rang out into the cold dark of the abandoned home with a certain irony about them. What should have been one of the happiest moments of the young Uchiha child's life thus far was made all the more upsetting due to his circumstances. Sasuke had decided long ago that he did not have any need for such weak ties as friendship. Even relationships in general he attempted to shy away from, as he simply did not see the point. What could be gained from a friendship that he had not already experienced in the past? What could a friendship ensure for him that the bond between siblings could not? Closing his eyes, Sasuke let the scent and overall feel of the place take him back to a time before his life as the manifestation of the vengeance of the Uchiha, when he was merely a boy trying to impress his father. It was surprising how little had changed about this place; even the weight of the air in the household seemed to hold that same loving caress for him that he had once enjoyed during his time here. But no, opening his eyes and once more seeing the disheveled and completely abandoned scene before him, Sasuke knew that this current place couldn't be further from the home he had once known and loved.
Sitting on a nearby chair, disturbing the dust that had gathered there due to years of undisturbed abandonment, Sasuke thought about how long it had been since he'd last dared to set foot in this place. One might assume that the young Uchiha would want to continue using his previous home as a shelter of sorts, and indeed, that might be the case if the home were not paired with such horrible memories. The only reason Sasuke had returned at this time was because of his recent graduation to Genin. He felt as if his father deserved to know that at least his younger son was working, attempting to better himself for the sake of their clan. It was almost funny; even though he had no desire to form any sort of close bond with those around him, Sasuke couldn't say that it didn't hurt not to have anyone celebrate his accomplishment. Even before his father had begun acknowledging him, at the very least Itachi...
The thought trailed off suddenly, and all of the sentimental images in his mind were replaced by an absolute rage that Sasuke could only describe as the hatred of each member of his clan which had been passed down to him. Sometimes Sasuke believed in such things as reincarnation – or at the very least, he believed that one's spirit doesn't simply fade and have no effect on the world and those residing in it after their demise. He could feel all of them, from Fugaku to Mikoto; from Shisui to ___; from Uruchi to Teyaki screaming at him within the recesses of his own mind. They demanded vengeance, they wanted blood. And only one sacrifice would do. The face of his brother, of a murderer suddenly materialized in his consciousness, and it was all Sasuke could do to not attempt to reach out and gouge those undeserved eyes from his brother's traitorous head. Thinking on Itachi's eyes, Sasuke couldn't help but turn the tables and begin to look at his own accomplishments in relationship to those of his brother.
Whereas Itachi had gained power by betraying not only his clan, but also his best friend and family, Sasuke had yet to awaken his Sharingan. The thought of it drove him mad, and he didn't understand why in spite of days upon days of harsh training, he had made no progress in realizing the potential of his own bloodline. He refused to believe that this was merely a result of a natural ceiling that he had hit for his potential; if Itachi had awakened this gift and trained it to such a point, then Sasuke would do the same. He had to; the words of his brother rang through his head once more, telling him that he would not be able to accomplish what he had set out to do without matching his eyes with a set of his own. Balling his hands into fists, the young Sasuke attempted to cope with the horrors of the night once more. He could remember every detail, every single image so vividly, and yet he could not understand why his mind had chosen to take him for a fool in the final moments of his confrontation with Itachi. After all, there was no chance that what he had seen had matched factual reality. Itachi was a monster, he had killed their family and their friends, and Sasuke would not let a simple weakness of his mind, or a misguided fondness that he might have once had for his brother lead him to falter in his quest for vengeance for a single second.
Though Sasuke spent much time on grounds formerly claimed by the Uchiha Clan, something that he believed to be his birthright and duty, this was the first time he had brought himself to venture back into their old home. He didn't know why he had expected a trip here to make him feel better; perhaps he had believed for a second that his graduation meant anything to his father. However, Itachi had always been more successful than he in terms of advancement in Konohagakure, and such advancement was worthless if it was not coupled with a devotion to duty and loyalty. Sasuke knew that, wherever his father and mother were, they now understood that Sasuke was the superior child. He knew that they trusted him with the duty that he was meant to carry out, and that they endorsed the killing their oldest son without question. Sasuke stood from his seat, placing a hand on a nearby table and closing his eyes in an attempt to feel a more powerful connection to this place. In that moment, he reaffirmed his vow to them. He was an avenger, the last of the Uchiha Clan, and the one who would rebuild their clan and wipe the traitor that had acted against it from the face of the earth. Nodding and knowing that he had their support, Sasuke turned and left, vowing not to return to the place of his childhood until Itachi's blood had seeped through his hands and into his very soul.
