Shouten stood there alone in the Li Compound. Well, alone was a figure of speech. There were other Li Clan members fluttering around him, but he was zoning them out. Today was his first real day as a ninja without Daisuke, Mizuki, and Masami. Today was his day for training. Shouten thought back to when he purchased his sword. Granted, he still had the Sword of Li Souls in a scroll in his pouch, he wasn't keen on using that in battle until he had earned it.
Earned it. That seemed like a possibility that was robbed from the young child. After all, how could he do battle with his father when he was already killed in battle? Of course, in the deepest reaches of his mind, Shouten fantasized about finding his father's killer. However, in this moment of clarity, he had to be real with himself. It was improbable that he would ever meet the man who killed Ling Li. Besides, if Shouten did ever meet this man, what would he do? Die, just as his father had.
"Fuck that."
Now was not the time for doubts and self-pity. Today, Shouten Li was going to master a new technique. He retreated to his thoughts to plan the day out.
"Masami-sensei gave us this day off. I'm not going to waste it. I think I'm doing alright as far as fire techniques go. I need to practice some sword techniques to make good use of this sword. I know that one thing that's essential to battle is speed. If I had been quicker, perhaps..."
Shouten recalled the beating he received at the hands of his sensei. He remembered all of the missed attacks and failed strikes. He clenched his fist around his sword tightly. It was finally time to put his money where his mouth was. Shouten knew a D-Rank technique known as the Body Flicker technique. The Body Flicker technique was useful for bursts of quick movement. It can be utilized as an odd form of teleportation. If Shouten were honest, he had no idea how the jutsu worked. He just knew that if he made the hand seals, he would move to a new location.
The plan? Use the Body Flicker technique, and as the smoke clears, Shouten emerges with his sword swinging. The Genin noted Daisuke's purchases of smoke bombs. That would work well in tandem with the technique. They could confuse the target, that way the attack could come from any direction. Of course, it would only be truly effective after the target had seen the technique once before. Speaking of which, Shouten hadn't named it.
"Come on brain, shut off. I need to get this done sometime this year."
Shouten sheathed his blade and took a deep breath. He made a few quick handseals and chakra surged within his body. This was the Body Flicker technique. A cloud of smoke enveloped him and he moved a few feet forward in the compound. However, in his excitement, the poor boy forgot to draw his sword. This technique, so simple, would require practice. The movement is so instantaneous that Shouten has to be quick at drawing his sword and it requires handseals so he cannot have it drawn already. The young man tried it again. This time he managed to half-draw his sword. That was even more dangerous than forgetting to draw it at all, because in the half-drawn position Shouten was completely exposed. Zero defense.
"The third time is the charm."
That phrase became, "The tenth time is the charm." You would think that being such a simple jutsu, or so Shouten kept telling himself, that he would be done already. He wasn't. Finally, on the fourteenth try, Shouten managed to move across the compound and fully draw his sword. Perfect. He practiced it a few more times to ensure that the half-drawn state would not occur anymore. Luckily for the Li Clan Leader, Masami Saito used a blade himself. He could assist Shouten in his swordplay. Now all it needed was a name...
"Sand Village Art: Mirage Blade."
Sounded cool enough to him. Shouten's mind was able to return to its overactive state. He imagined teaching the technique to his two team mates. However basic, Daisuke and Mizuki could always use new techniques. Especially Mizuki. That poor child was not as useful as Shouten would like her to be. Hopefully she would use this time period much in the same way he had. There's a possibility that she was, in fact, much more talented than Shouten himself. Perhaps she was a prodigy hiding her true talent to throw off Masami, Daisuke, and Shouten.
"Perhaps she's the greatest shinobi the Sand Village has ever seen. Maybe this is all just a ploy to lure us into a false sense of security. She could kill us all."
There was his overactive imagination again. Mizuki hadn't been the nicest to Shouten, but she never seemed truly antagonistic. At least, excepting the time Masami forced them to attempt to kill each other. Mizuki and Daisuke. Lately all of Shouten's thoughts returned to his team mates. Under all of his teenage jealousy and their individual skills and anger at their flaws, Shouten hid his true emotions. He wanted to protect them. After the speculation about Masami's past, Shouten made a vow to himself. He would not allow his team to fall to the same fate. He would protect them with his life and more if it came down to that. They would be a close group with an even closer bond.
Learned:
Name: Sand Village Art: Mirage Blade
Classification: D-Rank Taijutsu
Effect: This is nearly a false technique. Shouten combines the Body Flicker Technique with a sword strike to create a teleport slash.
Exclusive: Nope.
Notes: This jutsu has all of the same weaknesses and effectiveness of the Body Flicker technique.
