Name: Kyomu Kagami
Nicknames: Kyo or Kyo-san to those he knows well. Mu to his kin.
Age: 12
Gender: Male
Village: Kirigakure no Sato
Rank: Genin
Nature Manipulation: Water
Appearance:
Kyomu is often recognized by his hair which is dark blue. In the height of Summer the sun sometimes has a bleaching effect which makes his hair turn a much lighter blue and yet while he was at the Academy girls continuously speculated on whether or not he dyed it. Kyomu outright refuses to comment on this subject. His hair is fairly long, reaching the back of his neck and curling up, as for the front he wears it parted with a few locks still falling over his forehead which he usually sweeps to one side, his face is also framed by long bangs at either side. Kyomu's eyes are also blue, large, clear and very expressive they are very much the focal point of his face as his nose is small, while his lips are thin.
Indeed much of Kyomu is, not skinny, but certainly trim. Though he has little noticeable muscle he keeps in good condition if for no other reason than to be able to heft and hurl his twin swords. He has no scars other than the odd faded mark where he's taken a bump or scratch in training, though he isn't terribly pale his skin is very fair and its not unusual to see him sporting much powder blue sun bleached hair clashing with sun burn which makes him look like a boiled lobster.
When on duty Kyomu normally wears three quarter length shorts sporting the black and white camo pattern common in Kirigakure with a kunai and shuriken holster strapped to his right thigh, he also wears two tool pouches one on the back of each hip. He usually wears a black mesh t-shirt with a light blue vest over the top which is parted at the front and tied with a white cloth belt. The garment bears the Kagami Clan symbol in white on its back. Kyomu doesn't usually wear his forehead protector as intended (for no other reason than that it makes his forehead sweat) and can usually be seen with it slung about his neck. On right arm he wears a metal guard which covers his forearm and the back of his hand and is attached to a mesh sleeve which covers the same area all round the arm, tied off around his palm, thumb and middle fingers.
The sword Kyomu wields is a fairly standard katana though of exemplary make, he keeps the blade in perfect condition, the blade also has an extended habaki to aid the speed of the wielder's draw.. The sword's only remarkable feature is its guard which is a silver coloured diamond shaped frame with three struts around the blade arranged so that the guard shares the shape of the Kagami Clan emblem. The hilt is wrapped in a dark blue cloth which matches the scabbard and the pommel bears a silver cap matching the guard.
When off duty he wears a much more traditional garb consisting of a white split hakama, blue tabi and waraji sandals. On his upper half he wears a blue bell sleeved kimono which like his working attire bears his Clan crest on its back. At his waist he wears a white obi upon which he wears his katana.
Personality:
A dedicated and thoughtful young man, Kyomu's chief concern is to do his duty to the village of Kirigakure. Having inherited his father's dream of lifting the village out of the era of the Bloody Mist and seeing that it never returns, he is a person of strict morals who will follow the word of the law only as far as it protects the people. While he shows sincere respect for his peers and superiors he is not beyond scrutinizing them if he believes their actions not to be in the best interest of the team or village. As such he, like his father, has an unparalleled respect for the Fifth Mizukage as they both see her as the driving force behind Kirigakure's restoration. For the dream of a peaceful Kiri in which his Clan can exist safely, there is little which Kyomu would not give up.
Naturally his Clan is the other great driving force in his life and it is the stories of their services and sacrifices over the years which most influence his desire to preserve and protect Kirigakure. In particular the story of his uncle and grandfather instilled him with the will to put the good of the village before himself, though the one loyalty which is most likely to override his dedication is that which he feels towards his family. As heir to the Clan's leadership he feels a distinct need to protect anyone of the Kagami bloodline as though that too were his appointed duty, in particular he is fiercely protective of his little sister Kaori and (though they share no familial bond) his long time friend and companion Tsubame. For both their sakes as much as that of his family he hopes to forge a village of a much gentler nature than the one which claimed his uncle and grandfather.
Though he has up to this point not socialised much outside of his Clan, Kyomu is a cheery and polite youth who cares deeply about other people's feelings be they directed towards him or otherwise. Upon meeting new people he maintains a great degree of politeness, always using the correct honorific, even when he gets to know someone closely he maintains this tendency prompting some to think of him as detached though its generally only when someone gets on his bad side that he drops the honorific suffix. He believes wholeheartedly in chivalry and compassion, even in instances where the enemy discards such ideals. In short he is upright at any cost to himself, physical or emotional. Unlike many other boys his age he's not brash or conceited and he really does care about the impression that he makes with people. Again, as heir to his Clan he considers it his place to make a good impression on their behalf. It is this fixation with doing right by his Clan and village which leads to his one major personality flaw.
Despite being the son of an ANBU prodigy Kyomu is in no way arrogant or overbearing, quite the opposite in fact, generally he is personable and timid, making light of his achievements, in some cases genuinely believing that he is not as strong as his peers. Living in the long shadow of his father has made him somewhat nervous, as though everyone around him is just waiting for him to screw it all up. As a result he is gracious in victory, but often seriously shaken or genuinely depressed by failure, especially in instances where he cannot keep up with the group he belongs to. He tends to constantly agonise over his strength, worry over his progress as a ninja and longs deeply to live up the legacy left to him by his father. Kyomu suffers from quite a severe form of performance anxiety, unable to simply lock himself into a competitive or combative mindset, he struggles to exhibit his not inconsiderable skills when observed by peers or higher ranking shinobi particularly in the context of an examination or evaluation.
It is only when it is imperative that he take action that his prodigious skill shines. In situations where his comrades or village are under threat, Kyomu shows an altogether different side of himself, ruthlessly cunning and with an aura of command much more befitting one of Kiyoshi Kagami's descendants. In such situations he reveals not only the great skills he has reaped from his training, but a keen strategic manner of using them which ought to be above and beyond a mere Genin.

History:
Kyomu was born into the prestigious and powerful Kagami Clan of Kirigakure. Son of the current Clan Leader Kazuki Kagami, great things were obviously expected of him and as he grew he ever displayed a keenness and intelligence beyond his own years. Though a generally shy child he was ever accompanied by Tsubame, a girl whom Kazuki had taken into their household after her family was destroyed by Yagura. This was not because they possessed a Kekkai Genkai which the Yondaime so feared, but because they had dared defend and shelter those who did. A year his senior, Tsubame looked out for her more sensitive companion in a manner similar to that of a big sister, needless to say living in such close proximity made them lifelong friends... even if Tsubame did kick dirt at him once or twice.
As soon as Kyomu was old enough Kazuki began tutoring him in he shinobi arts, Genjutsu and Kenjutsu being their particular focus, he was a tough teacher but the young Kagami would continue to surprise him with the level of adaptability he displayed. Though his skills flourished the weight of what was expected of the boy fostered in him an acute fear of failure which would later give rise to the particular form of 'performance anxiety' which he still suffers with.
In the Academy Kyomu continuously lead the class in theoretical test scores, but because of his growing anxiety his practical scores fluctuated depending on whether the testing was private or conducted in front of the class. As such, despite maintaining a consistently high grade he generally avoided the buzz of being what the other children would call 'elite' even in spite of his lineage and he was more often regarded as something of a bookworm by his peers. It was during his later years at the Academy that their family grew again, this time blessed with a daughter whom they named Kaori. This began something of a profound change in Kyomu, before he had wanted to become a shinobi because he wished to follow his father's footsteps and because he thought it was expected of him, but it was holding the tiny vulnerable little girl that made him wish to enforce his father's will rather than simply follow his path. The young man resolved then and there that he would let no child of the new generation endure the blood soaked hell which had plagued the reign of the previous Mizukage.
Come gradation Kyomu was one of the top five Genin of the class, in the end he came a close second, tripped up by his practical scores he scored the highest out of all the graduates on the written exam and despite his anxieties gained one of the highest Genjutsu scores which the Kiri Academy had ever seen. Following his graduation, Kazuki called his son back home and gifted him a scroll containing their ancestral Genjutsu techniques and though his progress in learning them has been slow, but he aims to have mastered at least one before the Chuunin Exam.

The distinct crack of wood against wood resounded throughout the dojo, the sound of shifting feet on the polished wood followed, the commotion continued. A strike, a parry, a shift, a feint. Each was aware that the other could turn a defensive error into an instant victory, but they both knew who was more likely to make that error. Kyomu's chest heaved as he drew back from his father. His bokken felt like dead weight in his hands, his fingers which had throbbed almost from the first strike onwards had begun to numb. That meant two very important things, one of which was likely to decide the match. One, he was more likely to fumble his blade and make a mistake and two, once his fingers were numb he could strike harder.
Kazuki seemed to have noticed it as well, whether from the way he had been gritting his teeth, or by the way he'd been so hesitant in his offence for a while. He knew something was wrong and that meant that Kyomu ha to come up with an answer before he capitalised. With both hands on the handle of his weapon he flexed his fingers, then he did something quite unexpected. He dropped his hands to his sides, his weapon hung loosely in his right hand and he dropped his eyes to the floor.
'Open stance? Giving up already, huh?' Kazuki raised his weapon up over his head, perfect. And as it came down Kyomu tightened his grip, holing his bokken horizontally and thrusting it upwards supported by both hands. The counter worked as he had hoped, striking the 'handle' of his father's weapon right between his hands and throwing in up into the air. With a powerful shout (or as powerful as the meek boy could muster) Kyomu held his blade aloft as his father had done and quickly brought it smashing down onto his opponents collarbone. There was a sickening crack followed by a sudden burst of white smoke which completely blinded Kyomu, having thrown his full weight behind the attack he stumbled forward blind before raising his guard again. It was already too late though.
His right elbow exploded in pain as something struck in at his side, something which had come from behind. Immediately he crumpled to one side over the impact, striking the ground hard. Through gritted teeth he spoke as he rolled onto his back and sat up to look to his attacker. 'I thought we called no Bunshinjutsu?'
Standing over him, his father gave a shrug and a smile. 'No rules out there, kiddo. Better to get used to unpleasant surprises, besides which what was the first thing I taught you about combat between shinobi?'
Kyomu hated being quizzed on things like that, not because he didn't know the answer, quite the opposite. He knew the answers and his father was doing his utmost to highlight the fact that he had not followed their advice. Standing, he rubbed his elbow and flexed his arm, it still had full mobility despite the pain. Honestly, sometimes I think he forgets we're sparring, that aside though, when did he make the switch?. Obviously even in a friendly spar Kyomu was at a crippling disadvantage, though in a real fight as well he would be completely overwhelmed, in this scenario the very thing that saved him from real injury meant that he had to calculate what he couldn't see. Because he didn't know what percentage of power and skill his father was bringing to bare (though it was in all likelihood embarrassingly little) planning ahead was virtually impossible. Formulating strategy without knowing the enemy's strength was a monumental task, coupled with growing physical fatigue the task felt doubled.
Regardless, Kyomu rolled his shoulder as he stood, shaking off the worst of the pain and raised his guard again. 'That's my boy.'
'No Reinforcements this time. I'm not giving you time to form seals either.' Drawing back, Kyomu dropped his guard, levelling the point of his weapon towards his father in both hands. His father smiled his cocky little smile, but he knew that it was no bluff, substantial as the power gap between them may have been it was rare that the same tricks caught Kyomu out more than once.
Notes:
Kanzeon – A kenjutsu meant to subdue a target and preserve their life rather than strike a fatal blow. The user first thrusts upwards while drawing a sword from either side of their body, smashing the target in the chin while leaping into the air. From there the swordsman executes a back flip whilst snapping off a bicycle kick to the opponent's jaw, the two sequential strikes to the head are meant to ensure a knockout victory at the expense of leaving the user completely open during their aerial manoeuvre should their attack miss or be intercepted. Though designed for use with dual blades, in the absence of one a sheath can serve as a substitute.
